사람들이 인생에서 추구하는 목표는 무엇인가?

물론 사람마다 다른 대답을 할 것이고,
온갖 대답이 있을 수 있겠지만,
간단히 말 할 수 있는 한 가지 공통점은
바로 '원하는 것을 얻는 것' 이다.

사람들은 이 한 가지 목표를 위해 노력하며 살아가지만
대부분의 사람들은 만족을 찾지 못한 채 일생을 마친다.

'
설령 원하던 바를 얻은 사람이라고 해도
목표를 달성한 후에는 종종 방향을 잃고 실의에 빠진다.

이것이 대부분 사람들이 처해 있는 인생의 어려움이다.

그것은 우리가 목표를 찾아 나서는 첫 마음이
'가지는' 것이 아니라,
'누리는' 것이라는 사실을 잊기 때문이다.

소유는 우리의 최종적인 목표가 될 수 없다.

우리가 원하는 것은 그 추구한 바를 즐기며 맛보는 것이다.
그것이 인생에서 추구하는 진정한 목표가 되어야 한다.

자식을 낳아 소유하려고 하면 행복해질 수 없듯이
다른 대부분의 가치들도 마찬가지다.

많은 사람들이 노심초사하며 살아가는 동안
생의 진정한 목표를 잊어버린다.

목표가 누리는 것이라면
과정 자체도 당연히 누리고 즐겨야 한다.

자, 그렇다면 늘 기억하자.
목표가 설령 달성되지 않아도, 또 달성되어도,
매일매일 추구하는 과정을 즐겨야 한다.

목표를 끝내 획득하는 것도 즐겁지만,

무엇보다 날마다 살아가면서 추구하는 과정 자체에서
기쁨을 찾고 즐겨야 하는 것이 더 중요하다.

생활에는 두 가지 목표가 있어야 한다.
하나는 얻고 싶은 것을 얻는 것이고,
다른 하나는 얻는 것을 충분히 누리는 것이다.
